First Thursday- August InCaboutQ Kate Thackara
First Thurs August:
As part of August’s First Thursdays Limehouse Wharf will be screening Kate Thackara’s split screen film InCaboutQ. The film will be shown continuously from 6 to 9 pm. Vyner Street will be busy due to many galleries opening for First Thursdays so it’s definitely worth popping by.
Having just returned from doing an Artists Residency at the Organhaus Art Space in the city of Chongqing, central China Kate Thackara made a split screen film over the two month residency, and presented it within a large installation. The residency accumulated into a four person exhibition with Kate and three other British artists. On August 1st Kate will be screening the split screen film which juxtaposes people and space within the mega city of Chongqing, whilst also portraying her own relationship with people and space as both tourist and artist.
Kate herself explains that, ‘Chongqing is an astounding city that very few people have ever heard of, and I am now screening the film in London as I am interested to see how a Western audience reacts to the footage, having previously shown it within a Chinese context.’
There will also be a short essay text available to read with the film.
