World Dramaturgy Event: You Are Now Connected by Sarah Sigal
After staging successful plays from New Zealand and Lithuania, World Dramaturgy Evenings now brings you a staged reading of You Are Now Connected by Sarah Sigal, a modern, edgy play about relationships and technology from the United States of America.
Lori is an intelligent young lawyer, on top of everything but her love life, which seems to consist of bad online dates and unsolicited cock shots. Zak is a shy, tech-obsessed university student keeping a secret from his family. Jenny hopes she has finally found someone she can trust in Ben, who discusses her sexual predilections with his co-workers. Zak’s mother Fran is afraid of the effects of online porn on her high school students. Lori’s aunt Rachel is exploring polyamory on Tinder. And Ben’s friend Matt wants his uncle Phil to find his long-lost love on Facebook.
Shortlisted for the BBC Writersroom,You are Now Connected traces a number of interconnected stories of Americans trying to navigate the effects of technology on human relationships as their online social networks replace their offline ones.
Directed by Tom Brocklehurst and produced by Elena Liutkute and Erin Siobhan Hutching for World Dramaturgy Evenings.
