With a passion for travel and the environment, and a fascination for different cultures, Sue’s art generally focuses on these themes. Tilley uses a diverse range of techniques and media, including welded steel assemblage, ceramic, glass, driftwood, and recycled and found materials. She often adds a touch of humour and a sense of movement, into her work.
Her work is often figurative, and is incomplete without either a community based concept, or some kind of community interaction and response. She aims to create a piece which attracts the viewer with its aesthetics, and leads them to consider and acknowledge the issue being explored.
Where she rarely use colour in her sculpture, preferring the natural character of the materials to speak, her love of colour and light is expressed in her kiln formed glass works
